Orange wine: white grapes, fermented on the skins
Orange wine is not made from oranges but from white grapes. The difference lies in the processing: white grapes are processed with the red-wine method, that is, fermented together with the skins.
How is it made?
White grapes ferment together with the skins, for days or even months. The skins then give the wine what they give red wines: colour, tannin and aroma.

What does it taste like?
The result is an amber or orange-coloured, tannic wine reminiscent of dried fruit, tea and honey.
Where does it come from?
Its traditional home is Georgia, where it is made in clay vessels buried in the ground (qvevri). Today such wines are made in Hungary too.
